Best Audre Lorde Quotes! Audre Lorde was an Afro-American writer, educator, feminist, and civil rights leader. In New York City’s Harlem, Audre Lorde was born on February 18, 1934. Despite having complex relationships with family members, she built a close association with a group of “outcasts” at school.
Although Audre Lorde had been writing stories since she was fifteen, her career as a poet only began to take off in 1962, when her work first featured in Langston Hughes’s anthology of new black poets, the ‘New Negro Poets.’ Eventually, she began submitting her work to various black literary periodicals and overseas anthologies.
