Myles E. Munroe was born in Nassau, Bahamas, in 1954. With eleven siblings, Munroe was brought up in a poorer family. Munroe became a Christian in his teens and went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Education, and Theology from Oral Roberts University (ORU) in 1978 and a Master of Administration from the University of Tulsa in 1980.
Additionally, he received honorary doctorates from several universities and colleges, and he taught at ORU’s Graduate School of Theology as an adjunct professor. Many novels were written by him. Ruth Munroe, his wife, served as co-pastor at BFMI with him.
In the early 1980s, Munroe formed Bahamas Faith Ministries International after graduating from the University of Tulsa. In 1998, he received the Bahamian “Silver Jubilee Award” for his work in “spiritual, social, and religious development” for the Bahamas. He got the “Alumnus of the Year” award from Oral Roberts University in 2004. On November 9th, 2014, Munroe and his wife died in a private jet disaster. According to Bahamian authorities, their plane collided with a crane at a shipyard near Grand Bahamas International Airport.
