When Gaiman was a teenager, he discovered a shortage of adult comic books. After graduating from high school in 1977, Gaiman began working as a writer, writing for periodicals including the Sunday Times, the Observer, Knave, and Time Out. When Gaiman published his first book, a biography of the band Duran Duran, in 1984, it was well praised.
