On June 18, onboard the space shuttle Challenger, Ride became the first American woman in orbit. On top of her employment as a mission expert, she was also responsible for deploying satellites. On June 24, she made her way back to the planet.
In 1989, Ride became the director of the California Space Institute at the University of California in San Diego and a professor of physics in 1990, after his service at NASA. Ride was the CEO and president of the company.
Ride was awarded several awards, such as the NASA Space Flight Medal and the NCAA’s Theodore Roosevelt Award, for her achievements in science and space travel.
