Stokely Carmichael was born in Trinidad and Tobago on January 29, 1941. When he was only eleven, he moved with his parents to New York. As a result of passing an entrance exam, he was admitted in 1956 to the prestigious and very exclusive ‘Bronx High School of Science’ in the Bronx. After his detention and eventual release, he delivered his most famous speech, extolling the virtues of ‘Black Power. Molefi Kete Asante published a list of the ‘100 Greatest African Americans’ in 2002, and Stokely Carmichael was one of its names. He was fifty-seven when he died in Guinea of prostate cancer.
