Over his two decades in charge of the Los Angeles Dodgers, he was responsible for eight division championships. LaSorda was born in the small Pennsylvania hamlet of Norris-town in 1927. After spending the year 1946–1947 serving in the United States Army. Then Lasorda started his career in baseball as a pitcher in the minor leagues.

In 1948, when pitching for the Schenectady Blue Jays against the Amsterdam Rugmakers in a 15-inning game, he established a Canadian-American League record for the most strikeouts in a single game, striking out 25 hitters. After that, he was a member of the Boston Red Sox from 1958 to 1960 and the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1950 to 1955. He helped the Dodgers’ Montreal franchise win five International League titles during his time abroad.

After Lasorda’s playing career ended in 1961, he worked as a scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Lasorda became a minor league manager in 1965, leading his team to five championships. Before retiring in 1996, Lasorda had a 20-year tenure as Los Angeles Dodgers manager from 1977 to 1996. His first season as Dodger manager, 1977, saw the team go to the World Series, which he achieved the subsequent season again.

After a minor heart attack in June 1996, Lasorda was forced to walk aside from his management responsibilities. He resigned as manager of the Dodgers with much reluctance. In July 1996, Lasorda formally stepped down as the Los Angeles Dodgers manager and announced his retirement from the sport. He led the US national team to gold in the Sydney Olympics, establishing him as a legend. On January 7th, 2021, Tommy Lasorda tragically passed away.
