Vincent Van Gogh is generally known as one of the most famous post-Impressionist artists, despite the fact that he was not well recognized during his lifetime. Vincent van Gogh was born in Zundert, Holland, on March 30, 1853. In 1869, he began working for an international art-dealing corporation in the Hague. He started a letter-writing exchange with his younger brother Theo, which lasted the remainder of Van Gogh’s life.
Van Gogh’s job led him to London and Paris, but he was dissatisfied with the work and was fired in 1876. Having spent some time as a teacher in England, he became a preacher in a mining hamlet in southern Belgium, when he developed a strong interest in Christianity.
At the age of 27, he chose to pursue a career as an artist in 1880. With Theo’s assistance, he taught himself how to sketch and paint while moving from place to place. In 1886, Van Gogh traveled to Paris with Theo and met many notable painters, among them Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, Pissarro, and Gauguin. Impressionism had a tremendous impact on his work, resulting in a lighter, more ethereal feel. There were a lot of self-portraits created during this time.
Van Gogh relocated to Provence, in southern France, in 1888, when he created his renowned ‘Sunflowers’ series, which is still in existence today. He passed away on July 29, 1890. Even though van Gogh did not live for long, he was able to create as many as 900 pieces of art in 10 years.
